❥Art: Both paintings are inspired by the comic book series "The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys". Although in the comics the original "Killjoys" : Party Poison (blue jacket), Cobra Kid (red jacket), Jet Star (space helmet), Fun Ghoul (old Frankenstein mask) are deceased, the comic is a "coming of age" story focused around "the Girl" as she and the new era of Killjoys fight against the tyrannical mega-corporation Better Living Industries and survive in 2019, post-apocalyptic California . I focused the most on the comic when painting "The Girl and Gang" (right), or the first scene in the series. To me personally, it was the most impacting because it showed that after all the struggle the original Killjoys went through to stay alive, the characters were dead and were not going to be in the comic. The "Victory or Death" painting (left) was just a spare moment type of thing. I knew the Killjoys would not have love interests, but what if? As cold-hearted as I am, I love tragedy. It peeked my interest to draw Party Poison's love interest, but have her dying. I loved creating the whole character and costume of Era Nova (I named her) as i drew inspiration from female comic book characters, video game characters, and pop art.
❥Progress: After posting the finished photos on the website Devart, I immediately got tons of positive feed back! It was so amazing seeing how many people loved my art and chosen dialogue! Although i stated in previous entries that I was trying to shy away from the approval of others, the attention is not needed but greatly appreciated! It feels SO good to have people excited over your art. It gives me hope that I will be admired in "real" life half as much as I am on the internet. Although it is easy to be faceless on the internet, my next step would be to incorporate my eagerness to my current life.
❥Reflection: I feel that incorporating literature such as the comic book and art really opened my eyes to how much i enjoy comic books are everything that goes into them. Me being an avid reader, i love being able to imagine the described scenarios in books, but with comics one gets to appreciate amazing art as well as read a thrilling story! Being able to draw a scenario pictured in my mind and add what i imagine would be the dialogue between characters was exciting! Instead of painting pictures with words I could literally paint the picture and express the emotion of the moment as i envision it while writing. I feel that comic books are something I'm deeply interested in pursuing in my future as well as writing because i'm not the best artist.
