❥Art: I wanted to pay tribute to one of the biggest inspirations in my life, Gerard Way. The painting is set during My Chemical Romance's Revenge era centered around there 2nd album "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". Drawing Gerard was very tricky as he has very keen features that need to be precise or it will not look like him, features such as his nose and the way expression sits on his face. In conclusion I believe the painting came out brilliant and i'm absolutely proud of myself at my first attempt at a male portrait, although the scan of the painting does not do the complexion justice.
❥Progress: Although I did not post this painting on Devart because I do not believe the scanner does the painting justice and neither does not phone camera, I have hung up the painting on my wall along with my others. I have received many compliments from my family on the portrait although my "The Girl and Gang" painting seems to be a house favorite! I feel that hanging the paintings on my walls for my family to see allowed myself to seek that approval from family that art is a positive way to express myself. I believe that in order to become the person I want to become I have take certain steps before its Jazlyn VS The World.
❥Reflection: I had an amazing time painting the portrait because it allowed me to fall in love with Gerard Way's use of theatrics all over again! The romantic, Gothic Vampire personas My Chemical Romance was portraying during the Revenge era is something that I GREATLY admire. Although Three Cheers was not a concept album, the costumes and makeup made it significant and distinct among other bands at the time. The thing I love about Gerard Way is how creative he is. Where others sees a broken lamp, he sees the fragments of a runaway man as the law hunts him for the murder of his twin and his family as witnesses place the man at the scene, although it was a murder turned suicide. In which case Gerard was written 7 songs, 3 comic books, 17 concept drawings, character back stories, and costumes for every band member based on the broken lamp. I believe his quote to live by is "where are can go, art will always go." Gerard Way inspires me to be as abstract and artistic as i possibly can in every aspect of my life possible. In his words, "Be whoever you are extremely loud. And be extremely fearless when you do it. You've got to be what tomorrow needs."
